From the Front Page to the Future: A Moment I'll Never Forget

When I first became Chair of the Ermine Community Partnership Board, I don't think I truly appreciated just how many new experiences were waiting for me.

One of the most surreal moments so far came after the launch event, when I picked up the local Ermine newsletter and found myself staring back from the front cover.

It's funny how something can feel both exciting and incredibly strange at the same time. This is the 3rd time I have had my face and parts of my story published in local publications. This time it felt different because it was me stepping out of my comfort zone. It captured that moment that I was in front of around 50 people speaking publicly for the first time. That may not seem like a massive achievement to some but to me its something I couldn't have thought I was able to do a year or so ago. It wasn't about the photograph itself, it was what it represented. Standing (or in my case sitting in a wheelchair) in front of a room full of people to introduce the vision for the Ermine Community Partnership Board was nerve-wracking, but it was also incredibly rewarding.

Every experience like this builds confidence, and every opportunity reminds me why I said yes to becoming Chair in the first place.

What excites me most isn't the article or the photograph. It's what comes next.

The Partnership Board exists because we believe our community deserves to have a voice in shaping its future. There is so much potential on Ermine. We have passionate residents, dedicated organisations, hardworking volunteers and people who genuinely care about making where we live an even better place.The launch event was just the beginning.

There are already so many conversations taking place about projects, improvements and opportunities that could make a real difference to local people. From strengthening community connections and supporting local groups to exploring new initiatives and partnerships, it feels like we're building real momentum.

Being involved in these conversations is a privilege. I feel incredibly lucky to work alongside so many inspiring people who all share the same goal: creating positive change for our community.

I'm also excited to continue sharing this journey here on my blog. I want to give people a behind-the-scenes look at what community work really involves. The successes, the challenges, the learning experiences and the moments that make all the hard work worthwhile.
